127 hours

Slumdog Millionaire was one of the most talked about films of 2009, I was always a little surprised of just how well it actually did at the Oscars but there is no doubt it’s a great film and showed Danny Boyle most certainly knows what he is doing and put him in a small list of current directors who I look forward to seeing their next project.

When I heard what Danny Boyle’s next film was though I wasn’t convinced it would work as a piece of cinema. 127 hours is a true story about Aron Roulston, a man who gets his arm trapped under a boulder and stuck in a canyon, this leaves him with a pretty difficult decision, to die or amputate his own arm?

The film starts in a fairly light mood, following Aron (James Franco) on a fairly normal weekend as the adventurer he obviously is. He heads off to Utah for a bit of Canyoning. It’s not long though till the mood of the film completely changes, in a freak accident a boulder falls and traps his arm against the wall at the bottom of a canyon. Having not told anyone where he is going,

A refresh and rebrand

A couple of things have been niggling me lately and I’ve meant to sort them out for ages but to be honest there really hasn’t been enough hours in the day recently. Somehow, however, I have managed to squeeze in a bit of a refresh of the site. I’ve played around with loads of designs over the last year or so (when I’ve had a few minutes to spare) and really haven’t come up with anything I love so I decided to keep it simple. Hopefully over time I can clean it up a little here and there.

My basic problem is I’m not a good enough designer or developer to make something spectacularly original, it’s a hobby and due to time restraints I just don’t get the chance to improve my skills enough, consequently I design and develop within my limitations using the KISS (keep it simple stupid!) approach!

So what have I come up with?
1. A simpler blog with less separate sections, a better archive to allow people to find posts easier so therefore negating the need for separate sections.

2. I wanted to make it easier to read so I have changed to a predominantly White

Ashes glory

3-1, who would have predicted that before the tour…. Well me actually but as I’m not a betting man there’s no point going into that! Australia were thoroughly out played throughout the series, how England manged to lose the one test is beyond me as they were so much better than the Australians. Well done England!

So I suppose a few questions need to be asked. How did England win? Were Australian that bad? remember they lost the three matches by over an innings, that’s a huge margin! When looking for inspiration on how to write this post I was direct to this article, written before the Ashes started, it’s comedy genius now we know what we know but it is kind of the exact opposite to the article which is why England won! So I’m going to use the authors titles but change the content to what he should have actually said.

1. Overrated: The author claimed that England thought they were better than they were. I think England, under Flower and Strauss’ leadership have always kept their feet firmly planted on the ground, they have worked hard in all areas of the game and never said ‘we

Comedy genius!

Every Christmas for as long as I can remember I have sat down and watched the Morecambe & Wise show. This year the BBC were generous enough to give us two Christmas shows and an evening dedicated to the comedy duo including a documentary of their early life. Firstly, may I congratulate the BBC for the brilliant documentary which was funny and heart warming. The acting was brilliant and it really gave you an incite into their early life. Bravo!

However, what I really wanted to talk about was the men themselves, Eric Morecambe & Ernie Wise. I was never around when the shows first went out yet I love them, but why, how is this possible, surely their comedy should be out dated? but it’s not it remains as fresh and funny as it did when it first came out. I’m certain some people just won’t understand what the fuss is all about but I just can’t understand how you couldn’t laugh at the pair of them. Many comedians on the circuit today comment on what a big influence they had on their career and I suppose this is one of the biggest complements around, people who now try

Living with my dream car

About 6 months ago I started looking at a new car. My last car was a Seat Ibiza Fr, this was a sporty version of the Ibiza, I had the diesel version. It was economical, cheap tax, low insurance cost and it was pretty sprightly which is the reason I bought it. I’m now a few years older and decided I wanted something a bit more grown up. I had a few ground rules of what I wanted as well. I wanted something with a bigger boot, 5 doors rather than 3 (it has always been a nightmare to get people in the back of my Ibiza), fairly economical, not ridiculous to insure or tax but most importantly I wanted something that I’d enjoy driving and I wanted it to stand out from the normal ‘boxes’ on the road. I love driving and I wanted it to make me smile every time I drove it. Oh and I had to be able to afford it (always forget that one!!)

I set about the task to find my dream car, I looked at everything from Kias to Jaguars, Mazdas to Aston (got a bit carried away, you know what it’s like!).
