About a year ago I wrote a post about Derby County losing another manager, one who’d had success at other clubs (Paul Jewell) and failed massively at Derby. We had an awful season in 2008-2009 and it was Nigel Clough who came in and saved us from getting relegated, he seemed to get more out of the players than Jewell had managed and we played football. I also wrote about how many managers Derby have had over the last few years and if we are to survive and have a long term future we need to take our time and build a squad and this may involve a little bit of hurt and patience. I also remember at the time I wrote that post and Nigel Clough joined us, Derby fans had finished complaining about the old board and were also asking for stability, complaining about the number of managers we have had.
Now here are the fact about this season so far:
1. Derby are not playing great football at the moment
2. The results aren’t great at the moment
3. The club doesn’t have a lot of money
4. We have very loyal fans
5. Clough has never

Just a very quick post this. Every year on this day people come up with their idea of an ‘April fool’, however, some people seem to believe that just telling lies is an ‘April fool’, it’s not. If you say something that could be true then I don’t think that’s really what the day is about, it should be something stupid that is done in a believable way. The best one this year has to be on the BBC website titled ‘Shearer to become Newcastle boss’…………
…………..WHAT IT’S TRUE!! Surely not!
Who’s the fool now? Well good luck Shearer, I suppose you’ve got nothing to lose really?!

Apologies to the vast majority of people who read my blog who won’t be interested in this post at all as its a bit of a specialized post. My brother was in the brass band regional championships at the weekend, I was absolutely furious with the result, it was a joke. I was just going to write a post when I found this comment on 4 bars rest, the website of choice for the brass band world. It says exactly what I would say but in a much more eloquent way. I agree completely with what he says except may be for the comment about Desford, I agree that their quality shone in certain parts of the music but too many individual errors cost them in my eyes.
I don’t often feel compelled to write but after attending the Midlands Areas I felt I must do so. I’ve been attending contests for a number of years and have experienced a wide range of performances and adjudicating decisions.
However few have been as baffling as yesterday.
I have no affiliation to any of the bands, so listening as a neutral I cannot understand how the adjudicators came to their decision.

For many years I have hated the Daily Mail, I very rarely read it but on the odd occasion I do I normally end up either incredibly angry due to its incredibly opinionated way of delivering the latest news stories or screaming at it due to its inaccuracies, normally in reporting some medical wonder drug or something along that line. I’m sure it’s not all bad but it just rubs me up the wrong way so I don’t make a habit of reading it!
Recently I’ve been really impressed by the 9 celebrities (and all the support staff) who have raised a huge amount of money by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. All of them made it to the top which is some achievement. There is an argument that I hear people say ‘why don’t these celebrities just give money it would raise as much’. However, doing something amazing raises awareness of the charity as well as the money (I also wouldn’t be surprised if they all made generous donations as well).
How do the red nose climb and my hatred of the Daily mirror fit together. Well in this article, (I was reluctant to link to it but I think

I turned on the radio yesterday to hear the presenter having a bit of a rant about the new referral system in Cricket. The new system allows each team two chances to have an on-field decision referred to a TV umpire. The presenter was complaining that it takes the fun out of sport. This got me to thinking, not just about technology in Cricket but the age old discussion about technology in all sports. Is it a good or bad move to allow the referees access to technology?
There are two schools of thought really, the first is as this presenter thought. By allowing the decisions to be referred it can spoil the flow of the game but more importantly you take away the power of the ref and also he argued that unpredictably is what makes sport so watchable and exciting. He argued that this unpredictably included the mistakes that referees makes. The decision the presenter was complaining about had been referred to the video ref and the on field decision was reversed. Even though the correct decision was made he argued this was a bad move because the on field umpire then loses control of the game. I

I just wanted to pass comment about the technical aspect of two films I’ve seen recently, the two films I’m talking about are ‘Valkryie’ and ‘Seven Pounds’, just so you know there will be some spoilers in this post, so don’t read on if you don’t want to know what either film is about. I say spoilers, I’m not sure I could spoil ‘Seven pounds’ I wasn’t a great fan of it.
What’s my gripe with both films, well, it’s got nothing to do with their subject matter or what I thought of them. It’s to do with eyes, yes those two things on the front of your face you use to see. I spend a fair bit of time looking at eyes in my job so I think I know a little about them. On to my complains…..
Firstly, I had a major problem with the end of ‘Seven pounds’. At the beginning of the film we see Ezra Turner (Woody Harrelson) he obviously has something wrong with his eyes, more specifically it looks like the cornea, not sure exactly what he’s supposed to have but the front looks white (should be clear) so I’m guessing some corneal scarring,

Over the last few months the state of the UK economy has come under much scrutiny, today sees the news that we are officially in recession, after the economy shrank by 1.5% in the last quarter of 2008. This has almost been presented as good news by the news companies, they’ve said it quite proudly today.
Anyone who has worked on the high street for the past year has know things had been slowing down, the bank problems have tipped things further and have just brought about a crisis in confidence in the economy and so this in turn stops people spending and so the economy slows down further. Are things as bad as the news keep on saying? I don’t know I’m no financial expert.
What I do know is:
- It’s not just the UK’s economy in trouble, the world’s economy has slowed.
- If the TV and Newspapers keep on about the bad financial status the country is in it will slow the economy further, have they talked us in to a recession? Well I don’t think they’ve helped.
- As we know the banks have also had their part to play in the current situation, too

Blimey I can’t believe it’s that long since my last confession post. It’s been a busy old month, but I haven’t really got anything to write about, hence the lack of posts.
I Just thought I’d have a small rant. This week has seen the temperature drop, it’s been cold freezing! We’ve had the first snow of the year (in my area anyway), this meant a normal commute of 20-25mins took about 1 hr 15 mins, to say I wasn’t over impressed was an understatement, but it got me to thinking, why can’t people drive in bad weather conditions? I was also driving in fog recently and thought exactly the same thing. Two things happen, either people drive like idiots and do very erratic things or they almost stop.
Please over the next few months when the weather isn’t as good just be sensible. A couple of suggestions – may be slow down a little, don’t jab on the brakes for no apparent reason and I have nothing interesting in my boot, you don’t want to see what’s in there when I’m driving along so please, please don’t drive an inch of my bumper, especially in bad weather.

I really fancied a curry last night and after trying my two local curry houses and not being over impressed, I decided to search further a field, but I was equally unimpressed, so what’s the problem, why can I not get a good curry?
I’m a pretty good cook, nothing special but I know my way around a kitchen fairly well. When I go out for an English meal I know what tastes good and what doesn’t. Over the years of restaurant visiting I’ve noticed a massive change in the quality of food you can now get when eating out and I suppose I’m now fairly choosy when I go out for food as I want something a bit different, otherwise I could have cooked it. This improvement quality has been down to more competition and more public awareness of restaurant food through the media. However there are still a lot of mediocre restaurants out there and I think this is the problem I have with finding a good curry, I expect all India restaurants to be good but why should they be when the English ones are not.

There has been a new update in the Formula 1 rule book, the new rule states that no silver car (as pictured above) is allowed to overtake any red car, especially if it contains a man with a yellow helmet!
I am of course referring to the appalling decision today to give Lewis Hamilton a 25 second penalty for overtaking Kimi Raikkonen. This has implications not just for the race but this years Championship, which of course being a Brit and Hamilton fan I’m gutted about.
What I’m more concerned about is what this will do to the sport. This is not an isolated incidence of what seems as biased FIA decision making which benefits Ferrari. One or two you can let go by (especially as I might be a bit biased the other way – though I don’t think I am) but there have been numerous occasions where Ferrari have got the benefit of the doubt, where as other teams have been punished. The other problem is the decision basically says don’t overtake, you may get a penalty, there is little enough of that now!
McLaren should appeal and I believe they would get the support of 90% of

I recently went to the cinema to watch Wall.e, as it’s a ‘family’ film and it’s currently the summer holidays I wasn’t surprised to see a lot of kids there. In fact, apart from my brother I think the only adults were parents! Anyway this complaint isn’t just at kids it’s just they were the problem this time.
My basic complaint is not about that it tastes like sweet polystyrene or that you always walk out of a cinema with it stuck to your shoes. To be honest it’s not just popcorn, its any sweets that make noise. I hate sitting listening to people eat for 2 hours non-stop. I’ve also noticed this not just at the cinema but the theatre and concerts as well.
My question is when did it become necessary to eat when watching entertainment and why do they always sell noisy food like sweets in wrappers that rustle or the dreaded squeaky popcorn? and finally why do these people who ever they are, choose a really quiet part of the show/film to open these rustle sweets or munch down a bag of popcorn.
Who ever you are please stop it! Thank you (rant over)
