The Dark Knight (IMAX version)

It’s been a week or so since I saw The Dark Knight but due to the site updating and me writing about other things I hadn’t written about it yet, so here goes.

I traveled down to Birmingham to the IMAX as I thought it was worth seeing in it’s full IMAX glory.  Some scenes are shot in full IMAX but the majority are in normal aspect, stretch to fit the width of the huge screen.  The transition between the two formats is done really well, you hardly notice when it flicks between the two and the change from the end of the opening credits to the first scene in IMAX format is breath taking.  All the IMAX scenes are absolutely stunning, especially the panoramics across the cities, one action IMAX scene was too much for my little brain to cope with as there was too much going on.

The film is excellent, it’s dark as a Batman film should be, the plot is well thought out and never drags.  I did feel that Two Face was very under used as a character and a lot more could have been done with him.  There was enough in this film without him and may be he could have just be introduced for a future release (just a thought!).  Apart from his annoying deep voice as Batman (he throat must have been dodgy after filming) Christan Bale puts in a strong performance as Bruce and Batman.  Michael Caine puts in a solid support as Alfred, as you would expect and the rest of the cast supported well.

Heath Ledger steels the show as the Joker and I can see why he has got so much praise for the role.  He gets it just right, you genuine start to thing he’s actually a lunatic, there is enough humor, without it being over done and the little ticks and mannerisms that Ledger gives the Joker really add to this very disturbed character.

I have one minor gripe with the film but it gives a way a key bit of the plot so I don’t want to spoil it for you, however this is only a very minor flaw.  Overall The Dark Knight is well worth a watch and if you can get to an IMAX then it’s worth paying that little bit extra!
