Rams have to get better

So after a dreadful season last year in the premiership Derby County find ourselves back in the Championship.  I wasn’t surprised we came straight back down, we got promoted too early and spent nothing, so we just didn’t have the players.  The only thing that disappointed me was the lack of effort that was put by 90% of the players.  Enough of last year, that’s over, we spent the summer signing a lot of new players and with Paul Jewell we have a quality manager.

Well that’s what I was hoping……

Unfortunately due to my job (I have to work Saturdays) I can never go to a match, but from what I’ve heard this season has started where we finished last year, there has been a familiar lack of effort and unconvincing performances, this is a worry!  After 3 matches Derby are in 20th place, 2 places above the drop zone and only 1 point from the 9 available.  Ok so we aren’t thinking about drop zones yet but there has been a lot of talk off the field over the summer about how we are going to bounce back, but we need to stop just talking about what we

My Perfect Coffee

I’m a big Coffee fan, I drink far too much of the lovely stuff.  Last Christmas I wanted to update my coffee machine, there is such a range out there, in both price and quality. I wanted one that wasn’t too expensive but better than the cheap 20 quid jobs.  I ended up with a Delonghi it cost me about 90 quid which is pretty good. It’s an espresso machine with a frothing attachment.  So anyway my perfect coffee is a Cappuccino.

I really like Lavazza Caffe Espresso, it’s got a really intense flavour (it is available in bean form for a even better taste if you can get hold of a grinder). Whittard also have a nice range of coffee as well.  Use filtered water as this makes such a difference to the taste.

The ratio for a Cappuccino is 1 espresso shot, 1/3 steamed milk, 1/3 foamed milk (The steam milk and foam is made by frothing the milk, adding the air by the frothing process makes the milk taste sweeter).

That’s all there is to it, if you get a machine and practice a few times you’ll be making Espresso, Caffé Latte, Cappuccino, etc for guests and they’ll

The Dark Knight (IMAX version)

It’s been a week or so since I saw The Dark Knight but due to the site updating and me writing about other things I hadn’t written about it yet, so here goes.

I traveled down to Birmingham to the IMAX as I thought it was worth seeing in it’s full IMAX glory.  Some scenes are shot in full IMAX but the majority are in normal aspect, stretch to fit the width of the huge screen.  The transition between the two formats is done really well, you hardly notice when it flicks between the two and the change from the end of the opening credits to the first scene in IMAX format is breath taking.  All the IMAX scenes are absolutely stunning, especially the panoramics across the cities, one action IMAX scene was too much for my little brain to cope with as there was too much going on.

The film is excellent, it’s dark as a Batman film should be, the plot is well thought out and never drags.  I did feel that Two Face was very under used as a character and a lot more could have been done with him.  There was enough in this film without

I hate popcorn

I recently went to the cinema to watch Wall.e, as it’s a ‘family’ film and it’s currently the summer holidays I wasn’t surprised to see a lot of kids there. In fact, apart from my brother I think the only adults were parents! Anyway this complaint isn’t just at kids it’s just they were the problem this time.

My basic complaint is not about that it tastes like sweet polystyrene or that you always walk out of a cinema with it stuck to your shoes. To be honest it’s not just popcorn, its any sweets that make noise. I hate sitting listening to people eat for 2 hours non-stop. I’ve also noticed this not just at the cinema but the theatre and concerts as well.

My question is when did it become necessary to eat when watching entertainment and why do they always sell noisy food like sweets in wrappers that rustle or the dreaded squeaky popcorn? and finally why do these people who ever they are, choose a really quiet part of the show/film to open these rustle sweets or munch down a bag of popcorn.

Who ever you are please stop it! Thank you (rant over)

Wall.e saves the world (of cinema)?

At last I got chance to see the much talked about and well reviewed Wall.e, Pixar’s latest film. It follows the story of Wall.e (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class), a robot which is left on earth to tidy the mess the humans have left, I won’t spoil anymore of the story than that.

The animation is superb, it’s amazing how you end up generally caring for this robot, and that has to be due to the excellent sound & visual design that Pixar have created throughout the film. Pixar have really taken time with everything and the attention to detail is fantastic, as you would expect. The excellent story line and the film generally moves at a nice pace. There are clever nods to other films including Pixar’s own.

Just a thought I wonder if Pixar have slightly missed the target audience, this is a family film, normally Pixar hit the mark by have something for adults and kids, with Wall.e the opening 30 minutes are very clever cinema, but the 70 kids who were in the cinema seemed restless, I also thought this was the case with a lot of the humour, it was very clever and by my
